Homecoming has always been about more than football games or official schedules. For us, Virginia Wesleyan has always meant people—friends who became family, professors who shaped our lives, and a community that has always had each other’s backs.
This year, with everything going on around the name change, many of us are feeling a little out of place with the “official” celebrations. But that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate what makes VW so special—us.
So, we’re making our own homecoming tradition
📅 Thursday, October 3 | 5:30 PM
📍 ShoreBreak Pizza, Virginia Beach
Since the August announcement that Virginia Wesleyan will one day be called Batten University, alumni have been standing together to protect the name and legacy we love. We’ve written, signed, spoken out, and shared our stories. And while we wait for real answers, one thing hasn’t changed—our connection to each other.
We don’t need anyone’s permission to come together and celebrate that.
Think of it less like an event and more like coming home to your people. You’ll find:
Familiar faces from your VW years
New friends who share your love for this community
Laughter, stories, and maybe a few tears
A reminder that Virginia Wesleyan is alive and well in all of us
No speeches, no programs. Just Marlins being Marlins.
Because We Are Virginia Wesleyan
No matter what name is written on the front entrance, Virginia Wesleyan will always live on in the friendships, memories, and traditions we carry with us. That’s worth celebrating.
So bring your stories, your hugs, and your Marlin pride. Let’s raise a glass to the community that made us who we are.

🐟💙 We are, and always will be, Virginia Wesleyan. 🐟💙
